Privacy Policy

Steward Records · Last updated 5 September 2026

Steward Records (“Steward”) is a personal record-keeping app. This policy describes what happens to the information you put into it.

There is no Steward server

Steward has no accounts, no sign-up, and no servers operated by us. We cannot see your documents, your records, or your usage, because none of it is sent to us.

Your documents stay yours

Documents you import, the text extracted from them, and the maintenance history you build are stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, they sync between your own devices through your private iCloud database, which is governed by Apple’s privacy policy and is not accessible to us.

Optional: sending questions to Claude

Steward can answer questions about your documents. Where your device supports it, this happens entirely on-device.

You may instead choose to use Anthropic’s Claude by supplying your own Anthropic API key. This is off by default and requires you to enter a key and give explicit consent. When it is on and you ask a question or ask a document to be read, the relevant text from that document and your question are sent to Anthropic’s API. That text is subject to Anthropic’s own policies. Steward keeps no copy and sends nothing else — no name, no account, no device identifier.

You can remove your API key at any time in Settings, which stops this entirely.

What we do not do

Camera and photos

Steward can photograph or scan a document, and can read a photo you choose. Those images are imported into the app on your device and are handled exactly like any other document. They are not sent anywhere, and Steward does not browse your photo library — you choose what it sees.

Notifications

Reminders are scheduled and delivered locally by your device. No reminder content is sent anywhere.

Children

Steward is not directed at children and collects nothing that would identify anyone.

Deleting your data

Deleting a subject in the app removes it and its records. Deleting the app removes its local data; data already in your iCloud account can be removed from iCloud settings on your device.
